Prematurity Awareness Month Fact #9:
Premature babies lack the body fat necessary to maintain their body temperature, even when swaddled with blankets. Therefore, incubators or radiant warmers are used to keep the babies warm. Incubators are made of transparent plastic, and they completely surround an infant to keep him or her warm, decrease the chance of infection, and limit water loss. Radiant warmers are electrically warmed beds open to the air. These are used when the medical staff needs frequent access to the baby for care.

Morgan Kate spent 63 days in an isolette. Saturday, October 25, 2008 was her first day in a "big girl crib".

MK's first day in the "big girl crib"

--------------------
Just this past weekend Morgan Kate starting waving "hello" and "bye, bye". It just melts my heart. She gets so excited and so do we. Of course this morning while at speech, she wouldn't wave at all. But this afternoon when our PT was leaving she waved goodbye and even said "bbbbb". She is growing and changing so fast - it is unbelievable!

So precious. She is learning so fast! I love the pic of her in the big girl crib.

The picture of her being so tiny brings back those early memories of MK, even if for those early memories I saw her grow through pictures in the NICU. She's so sweet and very tiny. Look at her now! Love it!!!!
