It all started with a Google search for antiques. That search sent me to Craigslist, which then sent me to the sweetest little spot about twenty-five minutes from our house. There I found all the old and antique I was looking for.
My first trip was back in February, with my mom, and resulted in a bed, two spindles and an old lantern for me and a beautiful table for my mom. Travis and I ventured out several months later and came home with a huge green shutter and some other fabulous finds. Just a few weeks ago Trenholm and I took a trip and I purchased my latest two finds. Two absolutely stunning, old dressers. I immediately knew that one would be perfect for our kitchen and needed very little work. The other was going to go great in our guest room and I was going to paint it "Barn Red".
"Barn Red" actually turned into "Cabin Red", but whatever you call it, I love/loved it. I also loved how easy it was to paint. I find painting old stuff to be easy because it doesn't have to be perfect. I want it to look worn and rustic.
It took maybe an hour to sand a little and then apply two coats of paint. I started painting with a paper towel - I like the look it gives, but then gave up and resorted to just a paint brush.
Once the painting job was complete, we took a drawer with us to Lowe's and Travis picked out the hardware. I have a difficult time with hardware, but he does not.
This precious little "Cabin Red" dresser now resides in our newly decorated guest room (blog post coming soon) and it makes my heart super happy.
