Updates and new pictures.

It's been some time since I have given any updates regarding speech, physical therapy and so forth. I thought today would be a good time to give updates and share some new photos.

Speech
This morning we had speech and it went really well. When we first get to speech MK is usually really wired and ready to go, go, go. Matter of fact, she's like that most of the time. Ha. But seriously, at first it's hard to keep her focused, but after about fifteen or twenty minutes she begins to settle some and starts to really work. Today she worked really hard and was really excited. Her favorite toy today was the pretend food. She loved it! She was saying all sorts of consonant sounds and even a few vowels. She was very, very vocal. At home she has been saying bye, baby, and yeah. And today she said "bye" while we were actually at speech. Such a rarity. It seems that she talks less at speech, but does more physical stuff and during PT she talks more and does less physical stuff. Go figure.

We have also made some progress with the cup. Some. Not a lot, but some is better than none at all. She will now pick up the cup and attempt to drink out of it. If I help her then she can drink from it. We have been using the honey bear cup, the recessed lid cup and just a regular sippy cup. She has been doing really well with all three and this has just happened in the past few days. I think switching her schedule around some has really helped with this. THANK GOODNESS! Maybe she will be using the cup before kindergarten after all.

Physical Therapy
This afternoon we had physical therapy. Lots of therapy today. MK always works hard during PT and she loves, loves, loves our therapist. Today we primarily worked on walking. She can cruise really well and push the heck out of a walk toy, but isn't quite confident enough yet to let go and do it on her own. She will either try to sit down real quick or she gets too excited and her legs start going in all sorts of directions. It's the funniest thing. It's going to happen though, I know it. However, I am perfectly okay with it happening in her time. Besides, it gives me extra time to finish baby proofing our house. And I definitely need extra time.

Early Intervention
Our early interventionist (EI) still comes once a week. She continues to work with MK on physical things, language related things, as well as some fine motor skills. This is MK's time to really play and do fun stuff like drawing, coloring, singing, dancing, etc.

This Thursday we go back to Dr. G for a recheck of MK's ear. I do hope and pray the ear has cleared up. For the past week or so MK has been battling a nasty runny nose. No fever, no cough, nothing else - just a runny nose. So, I plan to talk with Dr. G about that as well.

Oh those runny noses!! Will has had one for almost a week now, but no fever, thank goodness. Let's hope this one doesn't turn into an ear infection. I hope MK is all better when you go back to the doctor.

Hey...love the pictures of her in the Santa frock. It is good to hear that she is making good progress with her therapy. When you do come back to teaching you are going to look at your kids so differently after all you have gone through with MK. I have not handle some of the tough things that you have by having a preemie, but I know that I teach differently now that I am a Mama. You always know in the back of your mind that no matter how aggravating the kids can be at times to mama and daddy they are the world. Miss ya...I hope you will be able to come to Hollie's on Friday. Bring MK if you need to...all your peeps will be there and we want to see you.
